When you get high.

I’ve been talking about this whole change-up for awhile now and I’m finally settled. I wrestled with the number of fragrances to keep on tap ~ scale up, scale down, etc. ~ and which ones get to stay, and which ones get put away. It’s always tough for me. There are many things I love about many of the fragrances I’ve created, but when it came to death blows dealt by some to other similar scents, there were some clear Mike Tysons among them.

I find now that we’re using a seasonal launch schedule that I get burned out a little more quickly than I used to. Having to make triple batches of all the fragrances in a given season wears my nerves a bit and leaves me frazzled at the end of the season ~ I think it showed in the winter releases. Most of the reviews have been kind, but ah, I felt rushed, and my brain felt overworked, I’ll be the first to admit.

That being said, as I’m preparing to tackle a few other side-projects in 2012 (all perfume-related, of course!), I’ve decided to cut the main catalog back to 16 fragrances. I don’t feel the need to justify each cut or keep, but I hope you understand that these are some hard cuts, for me as well. But, please don’t hate the player, as they say!

Ordering Fragrances from the Vault

Before you get all up in arms on me about that missing fragrance you loved so dearly, I do have some good news. I have devised a system so that you’ll be able to order out of season (or Vaulted) fragrances at a fair price so long as I can make them. Let’s talk about how it’ll work for a sec, k?

  1. If I have it on hand (either decanted or ready to decant), I’ll simply set up a custom listing for you with the regular year-round price points. Turnaround time will be our standard 7-14 business days.
  2. If I don’t have it on hand, and I have to make it, I will price it like a custom fragrance ~ usually they run $4/ml for perfume oil or $2/ml for eau de parfum, depending on the nature of the ingredients. (This allows me to procure the notes when necessary, acquire any labeling needed, etc.) Turnaround time will be subject to availability of ingredients.

I will try to brew an initial 4 oz batch (my standard size) of each perfume that I can make pretty easily during Sweeps Weeks so that way, if you do need something, it’ll likely be available. I will also try to post a Vault Update once a month (probably during the week before Sweeps ~ more on that in a sec) so that you know what IS on hand and what ISN’T from the out of season line-up. I haven’t done this in the past simply for lack of storage space ~ but the new lab area is finally getting easier to work in and there seems to be quite a few empty shelves that need some bottles on them! Huzzah, a win-win!

Seasonal Sweeps Weeks

Toward the end of each season I plan to host something called “Sweeps Week”. This will be a week or two weeks where everything I have brewed (not necessarily bottled) is online (probably marked down!) and all of the seasonal fragrances will be online for pre-order. I’ll try to post official dates for all of them when I am back on the ground (I am currently scheduling this post while 36,000 feet in the air en route back to Seattle ~ hence the title!).

This will probably take place simultaneously in the atelier as well as online ~ so look for the newsletter or a Facebook announcement about when to stop in for all the goodies!

So, to recap:

  • Catalog Changes: January 31
  • Ordering Out of Season Fragrances: Begins Spring 2012 Sweeps Week
  • Spring 2012 Sweeps Week: January 20
  • Vault Update: Sometime between now and Sweeps
